What is the Pragmatic Web?

Communities & Technologies 2007 Conference

From June 28-30, I attended the Communities & Technologies 2007 conference in Lansing, Michigan, USA. It was a very inspiring event, basically the academic conference in the field of community informatics. Lots of interesting ideas and people, see my GrowingPains post for an impression.

Presentation at Knowledge Media Institute, UK

On May 14, I gave a presentation at the Knowledge Media Institute of the Open University, in Milton Keynes, UK. The topic of my presentation was "A Socio-Technical Approach for Topic Community Member Selection" (see my GrowingPains blog). I had some interesting meetings before and afterwards with Mark Gaved, Simon Buckingham Shum, Jianhan Zhu, and Trevor Collins of that institute.  read more »

Efficient Task Management

Efficient task management is an essential component of community workflow management, all the more as standardized organizational structures and procedures for coordinating activities are often lacking in collaborative communities. Before starting with group task management, first the task management for individuals ("to do lists") needs to be taken care of. Countless task management tools, planner web sites, Personal Information Managers etc. are available. However, task management tool support is not enough.  read more »

Installing Drupal Image Galleries

Although images are such a staple of today's websites, strangely enough proper image handling is not part of Drupal's core functionality modules. In particular, I was looking for modules that allow image galleries to be created. Although many people recommend the Gallery2 module for Drupal, I also read posts that said it can be very complex to install and finetune it. Many people therefore recommend the Drupal Image Module.  read more »
